Lost a commission in Dressmaker?
Don't worry, your commission is still there. It keeps its own page in your sketchbook until you complete it, and the steps below help you find it.
The bell brings no client
If you ring the bell and nobody comes in, a story commission is still open somewhere in your sketchbook.
- Story commissions come one at a time. When one is over, ring the bell for the next.
- An open commission only leaves your sketchbook when you complete it at the front desk. Starting a new dress, taking a new commission, Restart Dress, or selling or gifting its dress all leave its page right where it is.
Nothing is broken. Find the open commission with the steps below, finish its dress and hand it over with Complete Commission
. Then ring the bell again, and your next client walks in.
Started a new dress by accident, or said yes to a pigeon letter? That only added a new page after your others. Your story commission is still there, a few pages back.
Find it again
1Open your current dress
- Friendships
- Current dress
- New dress
- Three tabs sit at the top left of the sketchbook: a head for friendships, a dress for your current dress, and a plus for a new dress. The dress tab takes you to your current dress, and the plus tab appears once off-the-rack dresses unlock.
2Turn the pages
- Turning forward, the pages go: friendships, your finished dresses from the oldest, then your open dresses in the order you started them. Once off-the-rack dresses unlock, the new dress page comes last. The page corner at the bottom right turns forward, and the one at the bottom left turns back.
Keep turning until your commission's page is open.
3Work on it from its own page
- Each open commission keeps its own dress, and the one you finish is whichever page is open in the sketchbook. So turn to that commission's page first.
A new dress gets its own page
- Create New Dress on the new dress page starts an off-the-rack dress on a fresh page after your other open dresses, and that dress becomes your current dress. Your commission keeps its own page and dress. Each press adds one more page.
- An off-the-rack dress has no client, no budget and no requirement lines, so you can sew whatever you like.
A new commission gets its own page
- When you accept a commission, it gets a new page after your other open dresses and becomes your current dress. The dress you had open stays safe on its own page.
- The pigeon brings one commission per client, in a fixed order. It skips any client who already has a commission open.
Selling, gifting and restarting keep the commission
- Only Complete Commission completes a commission. If you sell or gift its dress instead, the commission stays open with no dress, and you'll need to sew a new one.
- Restart Dress asks you first. Then the dress on this page is cleared away: every accessory on it goes back to your stock, and the fabric under its cut pieces is yours to use again, unless you already cut that part off the roll. The commission stays open, ready for a new draft.
After a dress leaves your pages
- A dress leaves your open pages when you complete its commission, or when you sell or gift an off-the-rack dress. Your current dress then moves to the page after it, or to the last open page if there is none after it. That page can be another commission or an off-the-rack dress. After a gift, your current dress is always the last open page.
So finishing one commission can bring another open one to the front of your sketchbook. That is why a commission you thought you'd lost seems to come back.
Missing commissions
Some players report a commission that really did vanish. The known issues page keeps track of it. A commission only leaves your sketchbook when you complete it, though, so turn through every open page first.
