When the commission arrives

FionaGood morning. I am here to purchase a dress.
YouThen you’ve come to the right place!
FionaExcellent. In that case, please make me a gardening dress that is cute, playful, and suitable for the outdoors. I can offer you—
YouHold on! Don’t you want to tell me your life story first?
Fiona…why would I do that?
YouI don’t know. It just seems to be how these things work?
FionaDressmaker, I have a lot of responsibilities to attend to. I can’t spend all day lollygagging with complete strangers.
You:(
Fiona…
FionaAll right, fine. I’ll abbreviate.
FionaHello. My name is Fiona Trussard. I recently moved to Twillford. I am a farmer.
FionaThere. Now, about this dress…
YouWait, but what about your tragic backstory? What about your hopes and fears? What about your romance arc?
FionaYou are a very strange person.
Fiona…and my husband would probably object to a romance arc.
FionaI am not a woman of ‘hopes and fears,’ I am a woman of ‘actionable plans and contingencies.’ And what I plan, Dressmaker, is to transform my farm into a fresh produce empire.
FionaThis will be accomplished through efficient logistics and good management practices.
FionaIt will not be accomplished through idle chit-chat.
FionaNow, I require a gardening dress. It should be cute, playful workwear, and feature at least three colours of fabric. I want something cheerful! Happiness is important for workplace morale. I can offer you 250 for the job.
YouAccept Commission

If the dress passes

FionaAh, yes! This dress will be GREAT for personal motivation.
FionaThank you very much.
FionaI’m sure I’ll be back.

If the dress fails

FionaThis dress is not optimised for success.
FionaIt makes me feel sad.
FionaDo better next time.

When the commission arrives

FionaGood day, Dressmaker.
FionaI need a new dress.

You pick one answer:

  • YouOf course! Coming right up.
FionaThat’s what I like to hear!
  • YouThe Empress of Vegetables returns!
FionaTease all you like — you won’t be laughing once I’m in control of 34% of the county’s food supply.
  • YouYou only ever visit when you want a dress from me.
Fiona…yes? I’m not sure I entirely understand your business model.
FionaThe Twillford Market Fair is this weekend. I have a stall at the event.
FionaThis is a valuable opportunity to showcase the unmatched quality of my fresh produce to local shareholders.
FionaI intend to impress! I am also enlisting Edith and Dorothy to the cause. They will be managing marketing and distribution respectively.
FionaNo competitor shall stand against us!
YouWhat will you be selling?
FionaOur primary focus is roots and tubers — carrots, turnips, yams and radishes. There is a little diversification in our veg portfolio, however — I’m apportioning 20% of the stall space to cabbages.
YouSounds…healthy.
Fiona“You won’t be-leaf the nutritional value!”
FionaI’m still working on slogans.
YouHow corn-y.
Fiona…hilarious.
FionaAnyway.
FionaI need a dress that will turn me into a walking billboard. I wish to embody a vegetable. When customers see me, they must think “delicious radish.”
FionaPlease design a dress that is patterned, cute, and playful. It should have an obvious vegetable theme. You have 300 for this job.
YouAccept Commission

If the dress passes

FionaMagnificent.
FionaWith this dress, I don’t see how my stall could possibly fail.
FionaMuch appreciated, Dressmaker!

If the dress fails

FionaUgh. This look isn’t fresh.
FionaMy slogans won't be enough to compensate for this dress. I can't scare off my customers.
YouIt's that bad?
FionaI anticipate a 63% drop in marketing efficiency if I wear this.
YouGoodness. In that case, let me try to improve the dress for you.

The dress goes back on your table, so you can alter it.

FionaWhat excellent customer service. Thank you!

When the commission arrives

FionaGood afternoon, Dressmaker.
FionaI am here for a new dress.
YouThis does not surprise me.
FionaMy apologies, I misspoke. I am actually here to tell you all about my tragic past.
YouReally?!
FionaNo.
FionaWhy would you assume I even have a tragic past?
YouBecause you’re so mysterious.
FionaFascinating.
FionaI am the least mysterious person I know.
YouAre you the lost princess?
FionaWhat??
YouIt’s a good theory. Your arrival in Twillford coincides with her disappearance.
FionaBecause my husband and I purchased a farm.
YouYou are very secretive, and won’t answer my questions.
FionaBecause you’re a dressmaker who keeps prying into my personal business!
YouFinally, doesn’t “Princess Fiona” sound familiar?
FionaNo??
YouOh. For some reason, it makes me think of dragons, swamps, and temporally cursed royalty.
Fiona?????
YouAnd the colour green.
FionaDressmaker, I would really like to commission a dress now.
FionaDorothy wants to explore the Twillford hedge maze, and I offered to accompany her. I’m concerned we might get lost, so I would love a brightly coloured dress with bells.
FionaTo ring, in case of an emergency.
FionaThe dress should be playful, cute, suitable for the outdoors...and because you seem suspiciously fixated on the matter, anything but green. It must also feature bells. I can offer you 300.
YouAccept Commission

If the dress passes

FionaThat’ll do, Dressmaker.
FionaThat will do.

If the dress fails

FionaAre you trying to make me look like an ogre?
FionaJust…so many layers of terrible…
FionaWhy does it smell like onions?

When the commission arrives

FionaHello, Dressmaker.
YouHello, Princess.
Fiona…
FionaMoving on.
FionaHave you heard about the Twillford Pet Show? It’s taking place this week.
FionaI plan to win it.

You pick one answer:

  • YouI wouldn’t want to be the one standing in your way.
FionaYou have a charming cat… but yes, you would still lose.
  • YouIsn’t participation its own reward?
FionaPerhaps, but I prefer a cash prize.
  • YouIsn’t a pet show a bit…frivolous for you?
FionaIs a woman not allowed to have a little hobby these days?
FionaIn any case, I do not regard Alphonse as a ‘pet.’
FionaAll of my animals are productive team members, who pull their own weight and earn their keep.
YouIs Alphonse…a horse?
FionaA horse? No! Perish the thought. Alphonse is not some prancing show pony.
FionaAlphonse is my dearest and most lovely ox.
FionaTruly, he is a perfect creature. He has the prettiest eyes, and the sleekest red coat, and the temperament of an angel.
FionaA horse. Really. How insulting.
YouYou seem uncharacteristically sentimental when it comes to this ox.
Fiona……………
FionaHe is a good ox.
FionaDressmaker, you probably possess some rosy, romantic notions about farming, but the truth is that this work is unforgiving toil.
FionaCrops do not simply jump from the soil. I am not wandering the fields like a fairy, waving my magic wand to make the flowers bloom, and occasionally plucking a ripe peach from a tree.
FionaMost of my time is filled with backbreaking, gruelling labour. I wake up before dawn every day, I sweat in the fields, and return home exhausted.
FionaI do not have the energy to be sentimental.
FionaBut Alphonse? Alphonse makes my day just a little easier. He pulls the plough or the wagon, he never gives trouble, and he is always sweet and companionable.
FionaI love my ox.
FionaAnd that is why I will make sure that he wins this pet show. It’s the recognition he deserves.
YouYou’re actually a softie.
Fiona………a dress, please.
FionaFor the show, I am looking for professional daywear, with a hint of cuteness. A big bow wouldn’t go amiss — I think that would set off Alphonse’s coat nicely. You may have 400.
YouAccept Commission

If the dress passes

FionaOh, I shall be almost as pretty as Alphonse in this.
FionaThank you, Dressmaker.
FionaWish us luck for the show.

If the dress fails

Fiona…

When the commission arrives

FionaHello.
FionaWhat a fine day! The weather is lovely, isn’t it? Do you suppose this warm spell will continue?
You…who are you, and what have you done with Fiona?
FionaWhat do you mean? Did I say something wrong?
YouFiona doesn’t make small talk.
FionaOh, I do.
FionaJust not with you.
FionaJoking!

If you have 4 friendship stars or more with Fiona:

FionaYou might be strange, Dressmaker, but I have grown very fond of you.
FionaI suppose I am a little more relaxed.
FionaOur farm has become so successful that my husband and I were able to hire additional labour.
FionaAs a result, I have more time for myself. It feels like I can finally breathe.
FionaOf course, I can’t relax completely. I still have a lot of plans for the future. But the foundations for greatness have been laid!
FionaVegetable domination is all but inevitable!
YouLong live the cabbages!
Fiona…well, at least until they’re of harvestable size.
FionaI’m excited to attend Edith’s big gala without the pressure of my responsibilities at the farm weighing me down.
FionaEdith is very nervous, but I know she’s going to be wonderful. I’m so happy that I get the chance to support her after all she has done to help me in the past.
FionaSo I will need a suitable dress for the big night!
FionaIf possible, could you make me a romantic, cute, eveningwear dress? I’d love something with lace and bows? Maybe a ruffle or two. I can offer you 750.
YouAccept Commission

If the dress passes

FionaOoh, I’m going to look so fancy.
FionaThis is perfect, Dressmaker.
FionaThank you very much.

If the dress fails

FionaA commendable…attempt?
FionaI don’t want to wear it, though.
FionaI feel much less relaxed, all of a sudden.

When the commission arrives

FionaGood day, Dressmaker.
FionaI need you to make me look like a newspaper reporter.
YouWhy?
FionaEdith has an interview with the local newspaper. I told her I would help her to rehearse.
FionaNot that I know much about journalism.
FionaBut how hard can it be? I only need to ask a lot of personal questions specifically designed to make my subject uncomfortable.
FionaNow that I think on it…
FionaEdith should probably have asked you for help instead.
FionaAnyway!
FionaI think journalists wear a lot of plaid. Could you make me a professional brown dress that a reporter might wear? It should be stylish and simple. You can have 400 for the job.
YouAccept Commission

If the dress passes

FionaMarvellous.
FionaI’m ready to interrogate Edith about her tragic past and secret love affairs!

If the dress fails

FionaYeesh.
FionaNooooo thank you.
FionaGood day to you.

When the commission arrives

FionaDressmaker, do you have a favourite flower?
YouWhat an unexpected question from you.
FionaOh, I don’t especially care about your floral preferences. I’m just running a survey.
FionaMarket research, you understand.

You pick one answer:

  • YouI like daffodils.
  • YouI’m fond of violets.
  • YouCan’t go wrong with a nice rose.
FionaGood. Good.
FionaI don’t typically grow ornamental plants, but the Duke has been hosting a lot of parties recently.
FionaI plan to supply his floral arrangements in future, so it’s important to discover what’s fashionable in flowers at the moment.
FionaPerhaps I should ask his sister?
FionaIn any case, perhaps you can help. I’d like to approach the Duke with a business proposal for these flowers, and need a suitable dress.
FionaThink of a floral explosion.
FionaIt should be cute, playful, patterned, and most of all FLORAL. Would you take 300 for this commission?
YouAccept Commission

If the dress passes

FionaThis is perfectly charming.
FionaJust delightful.
FionaI’m sure to win that contract now!

If the dress fails

FionaThis is certainly…explosive.
FionaIt would definitely blow up any chance I had of landing that contract with the Duke.
FionaGoodbye, Dressmaker.

When the commission arrives

FionaGood morning.
YouOh hello, Fiona. Why are you covered in flour?
FionaA small mishap in the kitchen. Nothing to worry about.
FionaOne of Dorothy’s pigeons knocked over a sack in my larder.
FionaPecking about where it didn’t belong.
FionaBut no matter. The bird has been evicted. Peace has been restored.
FionaWhich is just as well, because I needed to finish my lemon drizzle cakes.
YouI didn’t know you baked.
FionaI love baking! I seldom have much time for it, but I make the best shortbread in the whole county.
FionaI’ll bring you a batch next time.
FionaAfter the pigeon flour incident, however, I’m going to need a new baking dress.
FionaPlease would you make me something cute, playful, and fruit-themed? A pretty patterned dress is what I have in mind. You can have 400 for the job.

FionaThank you so much. I’ll be sure to compensate your efforts with cookies.
FionaAnd money, of course.
FionaBut the cookies will be almost as good.

FionaDonut think you can get away with this!
Fiona…I knead a break.

If the gift fails

FionaI often wonder what goes on inside your head, Dressmaker. Perhaps nothing at all.
